NEUROSURGEON MEMBERSHIP WITH THE AASP GROWS BY INVITATION
A record number of neurosurgeons have joined the American Academy of Spine Physicians during the months of January and February of this year. Many have joined as the result of being invited by the AASP on behalf of a current member.
The AASP regularly sends out informational packets to neurosurgeons throughout the United States at the invitation of current AASP members. Some AASP members continue to develop regional interdisciplinary spinecare referral networks by using this invaluable resource. It is helping to facilitate clinical interaction between chiropractic physicians and neurosurgeons for the benefit of the patient. The AASP first introduced the match-making resource in May of last year.
Chiropractic members of the AASP can currently access the resource to facilitate a referral relationship with one or more neurosurgeons in their area. To access this resource, the member must log in to the AASP website with their unique PIN and user ID. The resource serves as a simple automated "match-making function" requiring a minimal investment of time and effort on the part of the member. The member’s online request to the AASP prompts the Academy to send a packet of information to one or more neurosurgeons in the member’s area on the member’s behalf. The packet of information includes an introductory letter on AASP stationary, information about the benefits of cooperative spinecare and an overview of the benefits of becoming a member of the AASP.
The AASP member is notified via email when information has been forwarded to the neurosurgeon from the AASP. This process serves to notify the member when he or she should follow up with the neurosurgeon(s). AASP members that have entered teh names of neurosurgeons in their area can periodically login online to see if the invited neurosurgeons joined the AASP.
The AASP is in the process of setting up a similar networking resource for neurosurgeons who wish facilitate an interdisciplinary spinecare network by inviting chiropractic physicians in their area to join the AASP.
