Credentialing FAQs
Do I have to pass tests to obtain the continuing education credits for the course?
Yes. In order to obtain credit for the course, the course test must be passed with a score of 80% or greater.
If I do not pass a test, do I have to take the whole course over?
No. You can repeat the test. Note: Each test can be taken as many times as desired. (There is no additional charge for this.)
Approximately how much money will I have to invest to obtain Diplomate Status with the American Academy of Spine Physicians? (For Physicians)
The average cost per online educational credit through the AASP is $10. For example, to obtain 300 continuing education credits to meet the academic criteria for Diplomate status with the American Academy of Spine Physician (DAASP), the cost would be approximately $3,000.
Approximately how much money will I have to invest to obtain Fellow Status with the American College of Spine Physicians? (For Physicians)
The average cost per online educational credit through the AASP is $10. Diplomate status is required to be eligible for Fellow status. 300 continuing education credits are required to meet the academic criteria for Diplomate status with the American Academy of Spine Physicians (DAASP); therefore, the cost would be approximately $3,000. 200 additional continuing education credits are required to obtain Fellow status with the American College of Spine Physicians (FACSP); therefore, the total financial investment required to obtain Fellow status would be $5,000.

Do I have to buy the reference books used for textbook review courses?
No. You may obtain the reference book from a library or borrow it from a colleague. If you wish to obtain a textbook, it may be available to members at a discount through the AASP store or through the publisher via links on the AASP website.
Where do I obtain a list of books used for the Textbook Review Courses?
The academy also provides a downloadable/printable list of all continuing education courses and the material required for each course. Each AASP Textbook Review Course provides all of the necessary information about the textbook.
How were the textbooks chosen for the Textbook Review Courses?
The AASP Educational Committee reviewed numerous titles and chose those books/chapters which together represent a comprehensive study of the spine, spine disorders and spinecare.
How long will it take for me to complete the academic requirements for Diplomate or Fellow status with the AASP?
The requirements for credentialing with the AASP can be obtained at your own pace.
