The American Academy of Spine Physicians The American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP) is one of the largest professional organizations of its kind, representing healthcare professionals of various disciplines who care for the spine. The primary mission of the AASP is to facilitate an integrated and evidence-based (conservative and cooperative) approach to spinecare. The Academy is committed to providing educational opportunities and resources to patients, physicians and the public. The organization leading to the development of the AASP was founded in 1995 by neurosurgeons and chiropractic physicians committed to conservative and cooperative spinecare. Over time membership was expanded to include other members of the spinecare team. The AASP currently represents chiropractic physicians, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, interventional radiologists, pain management specialists, rehabilitation specialists, and non-physician members of the spinecare team. The AASP has implemented numerous national initiatives to help inform the public and patients about the spine, spine disorders, and spinecare. To help enhance the delivery of spinecare the AASP offers continuing education to healthcare professionals leading to Diplomate and Fellow status. The AASP also developed the National Spinecare Awareness Initiative, which encompasses many educational projects, one of the largest being contribution to the online Public Information Center (PIC) of the International Spine Association (ISA). The AASP has the potential to reach millions of people with information about spinecare, lifestyle and product recommendations.
