THE VISION OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF SPINE PHYSICIANS

The vision of the American Academy of Spine Physicans is to use leading-edge communications and database technology to help healthcare professionals realize their personal potential, to facilitate the development of efficient spinecare networks and to positively impact the evolution of spinecare facilites. The AASP is committed to "shaping the future of spinecare" by acknowledging and fostering the development of new spinecare technology and spinecare techniques.

PREMISE FOR THE AASP VISION STATEMENT

Physicians of various disciplines have a growing appreciation for the complexity of the spine which encourages interdisciplinary efforts. Cooperative and conservative intervention improves the outcome of spinecare. The American Academy of Spine Physicians is dedicated to facilitating integrated and evidence-based spinecare by providing education opportunities and resources to patients, physicans and the public. The AASP will keep its members informed by acknowledging advances in technology and techniques and by implementing novel communications technology to promote the development of local interdisciplinary spinecare networks. The AASP will encourage the development of members both professionally and personally, generating leaders in the field of spinecare.

Progress in technology, biotechnology and interventional procedures provide physicians with the opportunity to render an earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Scientific advancement also provides a greater understanding of tissue properties and more reliable measures of assessing tissue recovery and thus therapeutic outcomes. This insight facilitates physicians growing appreciation for the complexity of the spine and encourages interdisciplinary efforts.

The AASP will continue to utilize the emerging body of scientific evidence to empower leaders within the spinecare field. The AASP will encourage other organizations to combine efforts to improve the quality of spinecare. The Academy will continue to provide leaders in the spinecare field with unique opportunities to educate each other, their patients and the public. Through these methods the AASP will promote the benefits of addressing the full spectrum of spinal disorders through cooperative efforts.
